Bursary Program

The Bursary Program supports graduating Nova Scotia high school students pursuing post-secondary education in the public education system or at Community Colleges in Atlantic Canada. Applications are submitted through a local Lodge, often via the student’s high school guidance department. Each Lodge’s Bursary Committee selects recipients based on academic achievement, community involvement, financial need, and related criteria.

Funding Structure

  • The Lodge contributes one-third of the bursary amount

  • The Foundation covers two-thirds, up to $1,500 per student

  • Funds are released once the Lodge’s contribution and required paperwork are received, including an invoice from the student’s educational institution

Claiming the Bursary

  • Students receive a letter to present to the university registrar during registration

  • This letter outlines the process for the school to receive the funds

  • A registration form is included in the bursary package provided to the student

Matching Support

St. Mary’s University may match the bursary if the student maintains academic standing during the first semester. Matching is not automatic and depends on meeting specific university criteria. The Foundation continues to seek similar partnerships with other institutions.

Attention Masonic Lodges

For Lodges, complete details and instructions are provided annually in the Masonic Foundation information package sent to each Lodge Secretary. All applications must use the approved form and be submitted to the Foundation Secretary by the 31st of March.
